This problem is only going in one direction until the regulation around air traffic control for drones becomes a reality.

Altitude Angel is a business we've backed who are leading the field to address this problem. They partnered with one of the leading suppliers in the Airport Air Traffic Control industry to develop and launch an automated ‘air traffic control for drones’ they hope will become the foundation for future national Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM) systems in Europe.

In November 2018 Altitude Angel partnered with a range of companies, including DJI the global market leader in consumer drones, to demonstrate their technology at Manchester Airport in a live airport environment.

Christian Struwe, Head of Public Policy (EMEA) for DJI, said: "We are delighted to have partnered with Altitude Angel to showcase the capabilities of our remote ID drone detection system through its integration into GuardianUTM and were impressed with the depth and breadth of capabilities they demonstrated [at Manchester Airport]”.

GuardianUTM is now being deployed by NATS, the UK’s main air navigation service provider, who will be utilising it as its national UTM operating system in production from December 2018, to provide fair and equitable access to the airspace for all.
